Getting My Cassette Tapes Converted At Last!
June 2011 By Colebox

Having been unable to for quite a while, the facility to record cassette tapes to digital has returned to me but not by any straightforward route.

For some reason, my Windows 7 computer just refused to take any signal from my cassette deck, when connected to the aux-in on the PC. Playback, although the contents of the tape was audible, would just be a very loud hum. The same thing occurred if I connected the tape deck, to the computer's aux-in, via an old Amp (which I had successfully used years ago on an older computer).

I did look into some of the items that connected a cassette tape player to PC via USB but from the reviews it seemed that none of these worked with Windows 7 but only on XP. Could this be the problem that I was having?

Then it dawned on me; record them onto DVD-R using a DVD recorder and rip the soundtrack from the DVD-R to my PC. Alright, maybe a bit of faffing about but the idea was sound and it would be job done without having to spend any more money on any more equipment.

Tried it and it worked perfectly! Where's that copy of Through A Glass Darkly?
